First Steps
Today I am starting a project for a 2 month long game jam. The theme of this project is "Community". After some brainstorming, I started focusing on the idea that your community is something that you don't appreciate until it's gone. This led to the idea of a game where you have a party with you at the beginning, but life starts happening and your community begins to dwindle. The game should reach its conclusion when you are all by yourself, facing a challenge that was simple with your friends, but is now insurmountable.
I envision this being a top-down, wave combat system. While I have done lots of programming for movement and collisions, I have never programmed a dialogue system. This is going to be essential for this game in order for me to tell my story. I'll start this week with doing some research on different dialogue and cutscene techniques.
